Architects build on a merger

An architectural firm is renewing and expanding its Flatiron district offices. Perkins Eastman is growing by 22,500 square feet at 115 Fifth Ave., at East 18th Street.

With the expansion, the firm will occupy the building's entire third floor and a portion of the second and sixth floors, for a total of 80,000 square feet. The lease expires in 2018. The 13-story building, which also has an entrance on Broadway, is the location of ABC Carpet & Home. The asking rent for office space is about $30.

Perkins Eastman needed more space following its merger in January with Larsen Shein Ginsberg Snyder, an architecture firm that specializes in designing health care facilities.
"We looked at all kinds of office space and negotiated on other alternatives, but the landlord and the company really wanted to try and make this happen," says Ted Rotante, a corporate managing director at Studley, which represented the tenant. Newmark Knight Frank represented the landlord, the Winter Organization.
