Yahoo revs growth engine
Internet monolith becomes a dominant tenant at 1065 Sixth

Internet giant Yahoo has expanded its New York headquarters at 1065 Sixth Ave., becoming one of the building's dominant tenants.

The company has signed a long-term lease and taken on an additional 40,000 square feet. That brings its total office space in the building, which is at West 40th Street, to 74,000 square feet.
"Yahoo is consolidating some of its offices around the city," says David Kaufman, vice president of leasing for Trizec Properties Inc., which represented the landlord. Cresa Partners represented Yahoo.

Yahoo, which has been at 1065 Sixth for eight years, occupies four noncontiguous floors. In the expansion, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company is taking the entire 12th floor and most of the eighth floor. The asking rent at the building is $38 a square foot.

The 34-story property has historically been home to many garment firms; Jones Apparel Group is one of its largest tenants. Now, says Mr. Kaufman, the Yahoo expansion cements the location as a general services office building.
