HACKETTSTOWN, NJ-Kohl’s Department Stores has signed a lease for 92,000 sf at Mansfield Commons here. The signing brings the 317,000-sf shopping center, owned by National Realty & Development Corp., to full occupancy. Terms of the lease were not disclosed.
Kohl’s will fill a space left vacant when A&P closed its supermarket anchor at the property. According to a spokesman for the Purchase-based NRDC, the Kohl’s signing will require a 23,000-sf expansion of the vacant A&P space “to accommodate the Kohl’s format. Construction on the expansion and Kohl’s retrofitting will begin in March, with an opening scheduled for this fall,” the spokesman says.
Kohl’s will join Wal-Mart as co-anchor of Mansfield Commons. Other major tenants include Sears Hardware, Fashion Bug, Dollar Tree and Pet Valu, and the remainder of the tenant roster is made up of a collection of national retailers, local merchants and several specialty restaurants.
NRDC’s portfolio now totals 80 shopping centers in 14 states, and the company currently has 16 development and redevelopment projects set for the next two years. Among its projects in New Jersey are construction of a 212,000-sf Wal-Mart Supercenter in Phillipsburg, and a 410,000-sf redevelopment at Town Square Plaza in Somerdale.
