Detailed Exxon site plan requested for Jets facility

FLORHAM PARK – The New York Jets professional football team has delayed a selection of a New Jersey site for its training facility and team headquarters while the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) seeks additional information from the five municipalities still in the running.
"The NJSEA has requested more information from the towns and has given them a March 6 deadline," Jets spokeswoman Melissa Shorenstein reported Tuesday, Feb. 28.
"Once that is done, there will be a period of review for a couple of weeks," she added. "The NJSEA is paying for the land, so we are making the decision in conjunction with them."
On Feb. 2 the Jets disclosed their "short list" of potential sites, which included part of the Exxon tract off Park Avenue in Florham Park, and other sites in Berkeley Heights, Jersey City, Millburn Township and Wood-Ridge.
Florham Park Mayor Frank D. Tinari said Feb. 28 the NJSEA had requested a "full proposal" for the Exxon site that included the Jets facility and other development.
Tinari said the borough was receiving assistance in producing the proposal from the Gale Company of Florham Park - the contract purchaser of the 485-acre site along with the Rockefeller Group of New York City.
